Lifters....valve clatter on M30 motors?
Is the M30 known for this? It's not excessive but I think there is one particular valve that might have an issue. I tried listening with a stethoscope but could not pin point which one it is? Any thoughts?

It's Alive! It's Alive!
Finally got the old 530i fired up. :D It seems like it was a combination of fuel and ignition problems. The fuel pump had failed internally and I had the timing way off when I swapped out the distributor. I installed a new fuel pump and I bought one of those whistle gizmos that you insert into the s...

ECU differences?
What would happen if I swap in a 1976 E12 ECU into a 1977 E12 with 77 ECU? 76 is 5 speed and 77 is Auto otherwise the cars are virtually the same. The only difference being the "last digit" in the code number on the ECU? Would it likely work or would I somehow do damage to internal wiring?

Spark to points not plugs?
So I have new points, good condensor, new rotor and cap. Plugs and plug wires are good.Set point gap at ,014. Turn the key but car does not fire up and no spark to plugs? If I take the cap and rotor off and watch the points I can see the spark there by flicking the points open and closed. Is this odd...

Cold start valve.....
should run a few seconds even without the injectors working. Correct? So if the fuel pump is pumping and there is fuel to the cold start valve the motor should run briefly provided there is a spark to the plugs.

No click from the AFM flap?
Hey Mike I have spark but no click at the AFM door. When I turn the key I do not here the pump humming. Odd thing is that in previous attempts I would often get the AFM click. I suspect a wiring issue? Should I probably put power to the Gn?Vi wire right at its connection under the combo relay? What ...

Re: Bypassing the combo relay????
Thanks for the tip about running a wire from the fuel pump to the battery. I will be changing out the points and condensor soon which like Mike mentioned is probably the real issue of the no start.
