Re: 1976 BMW 530i "Eleanor" rebuild project
http://www.keehncomputer.com/Photos/Throttle_body_disassembly1.jpg Since I went to town with the sandblaster, I included my throttle body as part of the mix. However, some of the media made its way into the moving parts, so I needed to break it down and do a proper component cleaning. http://www.ke...

Re: M30B35 Swap
LOL! I would need to find another E12 in order to do a crazy M73 swap. If I "were" to do one, I would opt for the 6-speed getrag in the E46's. No doubt quite of a bit of the engine bay would need to be chopped/modified in order to house that massive engine! Plus, the final drive and ...

SMH...... If one were to go crazy and drop in another engine in an E12, they should pick the BMW M73 V-12. Naturally aspirated, it produces 322 HP and 361 ft lb of...

Re: M30B35 Swap
Lock, thank you for the clarification; I was not thinking about differing subframes.
Heh, I'm waiting for someone to ask how to fit an LS engine into an E12...seems to be the most popular engine swap in vehicles in general

Re: 1976 BMW 530i "Eleanor" rebuild project
Eric, yes, it WAS a case of ice cream cones  Chest freezer in garage + hungry me = empty cases of ice cream  Seriously though, it's just part of a larger pile of cardboard boxes and paper I'm separating out for recycling (note the Harbor Freight ultrasonic cleaner box right by it). So, I'...

Re: 1976 BMW 530i "Eleanor" rebuild project
After several weeks of blasting and retool my setup, the parts are finally done and ready for paint! http://www.keehncomputer.com/Photos/Blast_cabinet.jpg After a while, I got too annoyed with the harbor freight blast cabinet as it was, as it leaked like a sieve. Two tubes of caulk later, I was able...

Santiago, The E12 oil pump and pickup tube are integrated into a singular unit as shown below. http://www.keehncomputer.com/Photos/Crankshaft_and_oil_pump_exposed.jpg http://www.keehncomputer.com/Photos/Oil_pump_on_bench.jpg I'm not sure about the head gasket thickness, but I would ask the MLS vendo...

Re: Newer Fuel injectors
Adjusting the air/fuel mixture would require you to dig into the air flow meter and make adjustments. You will most definitely need a CO detector at the tailpipe to dial in proper lambda. Here's some YouTube videos you should watch before tackling this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yQukm7lNux4 ht...

Re: Removal of Reactors
Yes, there should be no issues. Since these cars don't have computers to detect whether or not the reactors are present, running E34 manifolds will not cause any difference. However, you should get and use a CO detector to ensure you aren't belching out unburnt hydrocarbons into the atmosphere. Now,...

Re: Vapor Blasting
Eric, Fantastic job on your E12! It looks great :D One tip: Verify that your vacuum advance actually WORKS. I decided to test mine (sucked on hose to create vacuum) and it did not. The new vacuum advance from Germany does move under "mouth" vacuum, proving to me that there was indeed, a pr...

I haven't updated in a bit as progress has...been slow, to put it mildly. http://www.keehncomputer.com/Photos/Blasting_parts1.jpg I've been in the process of media blasting parts... http://www.keehncomputer.com/Photos/Blasting_parts2.jpg And have even more parts yet to blast. http://www.keehncompute...

Re: Vapor Blasting
Eric,
All I can say is WOW!! That's a fantastic job the vapor blasting did to your parts.
Makes me a bit jealous, since all I'm doing is dry glass blasting. Mine may be clean in the end, but I doubt it will have your finish.

Re: Intermittent no-start with 635 Motronic 1.0
Dave, I went on realoem.com and couldn't find any 1981 635's. However, I found 633i for the 1981 year; Is it possible your bimmer is mislabeled? Anyways, the part number on the 1981 633i ECU is "12141466072". Google "bmw 12141466072" and it will narrow down any possible sellers. ...

Eric, Also helping from my armchair  . Did your E12 come from the factory with a manual? When I google your part number, it comes up as an automatic trans. relay as well. You may have to get out of your armchair and trace the wires to find out if there is another purpose for this relay. "E...

Re: e12 temperature question
I forgot to add to my previous post that it's unlikely any buildup will be revealed in the expansion tank or even if the coolant was drained and inspected. This crud can only be removed physically or through chemical means (e.g. coolant flush). Not implying that you have buildup, but wanted to state...
