Hi, I did one of these on my E9 Coupe a few years ago using the hydraulic brakes from the E28 as well. I imagine the job is about the same on an E12. The rule as I recall was to put in what the factory designed it for.

Changing to synthetic on a used transmission won't get you any kudos from Steve Dinan. It wore in on a heavier oil and thinner oil will speed the destruction of the gearbox. This was all out of a tech session I set up at Dinan as the local CCA chapter technical director in 1990.

I have noticed a fair number of SAABS in the local boneyard, let me know if you want me to extract one for you. Without the slider panel it sure would be hot having a window up there!
