Re: Hood Stopper?

REman, I don't have that particular part on my 76' 530i either. For comparison's sake, here's my hood latch setup: http://www.keehncomputer.com/Photos/Hood_Securing_Notch.jpg http://www.keehncomputer.com/Photos/Hood_Roller_Guide.jpg Part #3 is nowhere on my bimmer, however, please note that again, i...

Re: Distributor connector

Adam,

Glad to see you were able to answer your own question. Indeed, when upgrading from l-jet to Motronic, some components will be deprecated, as mechanical methods of engine timing (e.g. hall-effect sensor/distributor interconnection) are taken over by other methods.

Re: valve clearance - Video

Gary, great find! I'm wondering if it would perhaps, be more exacting, to set tappet clearance with the camshaft sideways, beginning its contact with the tappet surface. What I mean is, when the gentleman explains the gradual eccentricity slope is intended to "gently" engage with, and then...

Re: 1976 BMW 530i "Eleanor" rebuild project

One more thing:

The old headgasket is 89mm, but the new cylinders are 92mm. The old headgasket should block out the piston/cylinder wall void quite nicely when spraying fresh cerakote.

Re: 1976 BMW 530i "Eleanor" rebuild project

So, during my wait for the new house, I remember that idle hands are the mechanic's playthings.... Or....was that "the devil's playthings"? Oh well, so I decided since everything is still in place (despite me packing up Eleanor's parts in various boxes) to at LEAST build up the rotating as...

Re: 1976 BMW 530i "Eleanor" rebuild project

Mike, I've got block envy. It looks incredibly sweet - really nice work. But, seriously, how the hell are you going to move Eleanor when she's not even TKD-level disassembled? Are you a logistical genius, or have a photographic memory or something? I can't remember which screw goes where on a fully...

Re: 1976 BMW 530i "Eleanor" rebuild project

So, ladies and gentlemen, I need to put a pause on my rebuild for a bit. We are in the process of buying a house (hopefully, appraiser hasn't yet inspected property) so my focus has been diverted on dealing with everything that comes with home buying. http://www.keehncomputer.com/Photos/Finished_con...

Re: Speedbleeders for one man brake bleeding

I'm 100% with Eric. I have a Motive Products pressure bleeder (pretty much identical to Schwaben) and I have Buick, Ford, BMW attachments that allow VERY easy bleeding. I have had my unit for....many years, and it has paid for itself over and over again. The last time I used it? Last night. I had to...

Re: Speedo cable drive oring replacement

Hmmmm... Because RealOEM shows a bushing present, I would suggest a hydraulic removal. Find a metal shaft of exact diameter of the speedometer drive, put heavy weight oil inside the hole, and press the metal shaft downwards. This should hydraulically force the bushing and ring up and outward. Again,...

Re: Rusted brake lines?

Karl,

I would heat up the fitting, but expect to replace the brake fluid afterwards. Heat solves most all rust problems. Trick is to heat it to cherry red and let it cool. Then it should be an easier removal.

Re: Brake line Routing?

Hmmm...interesting. I wouldn't have guessed that BMW would have sandwiched the brake line between the frame and a concealing sheet metal. I would be interested to see a photo if you can get a good shot of it.

Actually, THIS blueprint is what you'll want to see:

I'll host these blueprints on my own server if these links ever go dark.
