Re: Oxygen sensor & cat retrofit

Mike - here's a 10 year old post in the e28 forum with some comments from you that may help: https://www.mye28.com/viewtopic.php?t=98476 It's interesting to compare electronics failures in early BMWs that are starting to pop up to the same thing happening in the Porsche world. After years of use and...

Re: Question: Need a Rear Muffler Source

They're still available new from BMW. Not cheap, but if you want original... Billy Boat makes an exhaust system for early e24s that fits. SuperSprint makes one specific to the e12. Either system will run about $1k plus installation. There's just not enough of these cars on the road for the aftermark...

I thought the "528i" badge was secured only by double sided tape...? In which case using fishing line in a sawing motion has always worked for me.

Whistling sounds are almost always a vacuum leak. Next step should be a smoke test.

Re: 1980 528i “Lucky Find” Project

How long since this has been started? Here are some pointers from Dr. Siegal. https://www.hagerty.com/media/maintenance-and-tech/dont-cold-start-a-long-dead-car/ In your second photo, think the snorkel just came off the airbox and the ignition wires spread into the gap. I can't quite make out what'...

Re: M54 swap into Shark?

I searched the forum for info but nobody's done a write-up here. We are looking into swapping an M54B30 into our E12-based E24. We have a donor car--a 2003 530i, 5-speed. But we also have an opportunity to buy a ZHP for the swap. You may recall that we bought the E24 for $500 and have been racing i...

Re: alternator bushing

This is one of the reasons I adapted an AC Delco CS130 into my car. It's mounted metal to metal and doesn't get squishy. It also is grounded by the same metal to metal contact. Plus it puts out 105 amps. https://i.imgur.com/ih2XIOx.jpg I'm interested to hear which application you used. Most come wi...

Re: 7-digit VIN number??

Hello FirstFivers, I have been searching all over for a clear answer/solution. I can only find 7 digits of my VIN, from what I’ve read the E12’s only have 7 digits? I was hoping to get the original build sheet but even the BMW dealership said they can’t help unless I have 17 characters...Is my purs...

Re: difficult or PITA bolts etc - for amusement!

Looks like a good time to teach an 8 year old how to wrench! I keep 2 of these in the shop, 1 to use and 1 recharging. They last about 3 hours on the brightest setting and come with an over the head strap. Way better in my experience than trying to place flashlights in tight places. https://www.rei....

Re: L-jet fuel rail / injector rebuild questions

I've used Mr. Injector several times and am always pleased with the results. He charges $17.50 per injector which includes new fuel hose with stainless clamps and a before and after flow chart. You'll be surprised at the improvement. The hoses are cut long so they can be trimmed to fit. Make sure yo...

Keehn,

I have a set of NIB 86.08 with rings if that's any help. I think you want 86.22 though. I also have a 1980 block with about 89k on it that you're welcome to have at no charge. About 1 1/5 to 2 hours from you.

Re: 1975 BMW 530i - Clunking Noise from Front Right

Online diagnostics usually evolve to throwing parts at it. It’s tough to find the exact issue without being there. My opinion is your car’s 45 years old and the newest e12’s are 39 years old- sometimes it’s good to throw parts at them! But to keep going here, is your car rusted near any suspension a...
