You can gently pry it out or pull the plastic trim near it first, install is the reverse.

I was told that hi beams tend to fog as they are rarely used, that is why lo beams tend to be much clearer. Run your hi beams when you can it might help.

Re: rear half /output shaft - torque setting

Loctite is recommended but I just did this using a long handled ratchet and just tightened it up as hard as I remembered it took to loosen.

Re: 77 530i Auto trans "kick down" linkage picture?

The BW was used thru 1976 and then BMW went back to the ZF in 1977. The throttle lever pulls on the cable in my photo which goes back to the transmission. Hope this helps.

Re: alternator bushing

A wider belt makes it shorter as it doesn’t sit as far into the pulley.

That has been my experience for the last ten years on 02s, e3 and e9. I shave one or two thinner with a coping saw. Works just fine.

Re: 2.8L to 3.5L

The lugs on the block are missing in two places on the 89 so a stock bracket is not secure. The adaptor uses a nearby lug to add strength.

Re: 2.8L to 3.5L

The Koala adapter will work great. My 88 b35 didn’t need the adapter but an 89 will.
