Ron I'm looking at putting in a newer engine with motronic too. Does the light have to specifically say "Check engine" to pass California smog? I have a 79 with the o2 indicator, could I just wire the check engine up to the light that says oxygen sensor?

On autos as least, that cover does somewhat protect against the auto trans dipstick which is reasonably close from hitting the positive, non-fused lead straight from the battery if it is being moved. This could cause a lot of sparking, insulation burning with plumes of smoke and make the dipstick wa...

Replaced my brake master cyl. No fluid in booster, just an internally leaking MB. Stops great now, & I can drive it in commute traffic without fear of causing a pileup.

I'm slowly working on fixing my neglected brakes. For bleeding purposes I'm curious - for the twin circuit fronts, does anyone know - is each circuit the left side and right side of the caliper, or the two lower pistons and two upper pistons? Also my MB cyl is leaking internally, and has possibly si...

Hey thanks for looking though! Tells me other cars don't have this wire, so it might be a year-specific thing. Although I might be able to help you - that box on the speedo cable is the O2 replacement alert unit (forget the technical name). So you may have just activated the O2 replacement dash ligh...

Any help is appreciated! (Virtually) everything works as it should, so this particular wire is probably not a big deal. I found a few other disconnected wires and traced them including the radiator aux fan wires. I know the head has been replaced (it's an AMC), and it looks like the engine/gearbox h...

Random loose wire

Hey all, was wondering if someone could look at their car and tell me where this wire is supposed to plug in to. It's from the harness that splits out to go go to the washer pump and the RHS marker/indicator, coming out from the RHS headlamp area. It has a black stripe but the original colour has lo...

Perfect timing. After a drive where the pedal sunk a few times and at the lights the car bucked threateningly at a pedestrian who gave me a dirty look (it's an auto), I'd set aside this weekend to replace the master cyl and also the hoses. Thank you for preparing me for the fact it sounds like a gig...

Figured as much, that plug is unlike anything else in the engine bay.

Also I just cut trash bags to shape to seal the doors, I figure I'll need to get back in soon enough.

I'm also interested in qu. 2 - what is that beige plug front of the motor? It runs to a sensor on the crankshaft so I'm guessing it's just for diagnostics, for some BMWs-specific tools maybe?

Ahh well I had the house to myself for the weekend, so I just had to hide the evidence(mess) by Sunday afternoon! The clutches seem like they're still okay, even with the poor shifts it used to shift hard in kickdown. But I'll only really know once it goes back together, same for the torque converte...

Auto Trans fixing pics

This is sorta tech - just thought I'd share pictures of my auto trans fixing progress. https://www.flickr.com/photos/87580745@N02/ The line pressure gasket burst resulting in low pressure slow shifts from 2nd-3rd, which over the years burnt the clutch and dumped fine grit material that eventually ja...

Hopefully adjusting it works. When I thought mine was worn, I found a number of rebuilt units for sale for $300-500, which isn't too bad.

Maybe it's your flex disc re the post "Steering Column U Joint"?

Have you lifted the front of the car, got underneath it and shaken the front wheels, one side at a time? I would check each and every joint and confirm they have no visible play by rocking one wheel side to side and confirming the whole assembly moves as one, the ends and center links. Check the idl...
