Re-reading the instructions on my computer after seeing a couple of installations where people left the resistor wire in tact with no issues, I noticed it said "recommended installation" and below the part where I stopped reading it says, "alternate installation" which suggests i...

Pertronix Installation '75 530i

Howdy. I'm 90% done (well, I thought so) installing my Pertronix Ignitor II and found that the '75 530 doesn't have a ballast resistor, rather a resistor wire (clear insulation, 0.9Ω) going to terminal 15 on the coil along with one red/black wire and of course the black ground wire for term...

Thanks Mike. I grabbed all of the numbers from RealOEM and checked with the dealer. The sheet isn't in front of me, but both heater hoses were NLA and so was the hose to the expansion tank, but shocker that my dealer actually had one in stock because it was returned to them three years ago from a lo...

Coolant/Heater hoses and a couple 530i-specific questions

In the middle of a bunch of work on the 530i. I found that both heater hoses are NLA, expansion tank hose is in Germany (have one coming) and the upper/lower hoses don't show available, so for the first time, I bought something made by ÜRO parts and frankly, I don't want to put that on my car. I was...

I went through the same thing with my B7 Turbo. First time, the installer destroyed both seals and all of the metal trim. I had it redone in California By someone that had done many of these and the rear was done well but the front was very tough since the lower metal trim doesn't follow the contour...

I don't remember any of that when I took mine off the M535i, but it was also filled to the hole with brake fluid, so take what you want from that. Maybe the parts in question are still stuck to it. I need to find a replacement though. Edit: yes, I have that plate in that configuration. Also, there i...

In the '80s there were a few alarms that used a key to arm from outside the car. Even the factory BMW system worked that way. I'd probably pull everything out except for the lock though. Probably not a huge rush since it doesn't seem to be affecting anything, but just be careful when/if you do.

Here's a shot of the tool kit in an E24. Note the curved piece below the kit.

Here's a shot of an E12 toolkit. Note how the piece is missing.

I've been through this when I found one of those on an E24 in the yard. There isn't any factory way to install it on the E12 as they weren't used on there.

He's not talking about the tray, rather in the arched area beneath the tray, there's a small panel that I've only ever seen on E24s and never on an E12.

I was taught that you buy new points, and rip the flap off the box and stick that between to set the gap.

I have a pair of recovered headrests in the lighter pearl beige color from one of my old E28s. You could dye them sand beige pretty easily. They were only in the car for a year or so. They don't have posts on them but you're in luck as I've got a pair of posts...

There is a silver box by the combo relay that has wires that go to the valves. Maybe I'm nuts, but I didn't imagine BMW would have this kind of jerkiness, etc. I guess I'm a bit happier thinking you're thinking EGR. Do you think it would hurt anything if I unplugged that box just to see if it had an...

530i hesitation at 3000 RPM

7/75 530i, totally stock injection and ignition (points, condenser, etc). When I bought the car, it would occasionally die, but could be restarted by popping the clutch without an issue. I narrowed that down to the combo-relay being worn out, as shaking the relay could kill the car. What has continu...

It also doesn't hurt to give the Ignition module a good whack. Those are known failure items (I don't want to say common, but known to fail).
