Strut Cartridge Removal

Post by socalfiver »

The caps that hold the front strut cartridge in place inside the strut tube on my car need to be tightened. Does anyone know what the tool is called that allows me to tighten these? Or where I may be able to buy one?

If you are using Bilsteins, then you can use the tool that Bilstein sells ($5).

They are not bilsteins. I have a spare set of strut assemblies with bilsteins, but they are in severe need of rebuilding.

They are KYBs and use the original style caps.[/list]

16" channellocks or 14" pipe wrench. Either works. Use a cheater on the pipe wrench if you need to loosen them and they're too tight.

I will second the big pipe wrench and cheater pipe. That's how I have done struts for years.
