Broke the steering lock mechanism on the 530i parts car....

Post by canada karl »

car still runs and I'd like to be able to move it around the yard. I got ham handed and locked it up....maybe broke something internally?? Can't move the steering wheel. What is the best way to bypass the lock mechanism so I can turn the wheel and start the car?

ooops, this post is a month old.

If you haven't already figured it out I would try taking the ignition switch assembly out from under the steering column. That is where the steering lock part is pushed up by a cam between the key cylinder and the electrical switch part. You may have to deal with the security bolts but just use a chisel to get them turning.
