Finally Get to ask- Hood Torsion Springs- Where do they go?

Thanks Pete for fixing whatever I did to prevent me from logging in.
I have a 79 528i track car- formally the "big dog" and before that "das panzer". There are no torsion springs mounted on the hood, and it has tried to take my fingers off a couple of times. These are not the upper ones mounted under the hood above the hinges, but the ones that should move the hood up and forward when the release cable is pulled.
I have a new old set. I just can't figure out how to mount them. Any pictures/ diagrams would be greatly appreciated. If I am not clear, I can try to post pics.
Thanks
Jack

The notch/hook bolts hold them on. Note the direction they go also .....add some goop with the bolt heads/washers to seal out water.
Thanks But...

I recently had these in and out of my car, but I am not sure how to help you? As you know, they go inside the tube and are held by a sandwich of brackets at the ends.

OK, thats a start. Didn't know they went in tube. Maybe just a picture of ends. I need to make sure I have all the appropriate places for them to attach. I suppose I have to remove the hood. Sorry I'm so dumb on this, but the manual I have is no help, and I have not been able to find another e12 around to look at.
Thanks

One would not be able to see them without taking things apart.
Here are some photos of the hinge on my parts car:

You can click on the link and see a few more.
There is a thicker plate on the inboard side that is the pivot for the hinge bar. That part is also the one that the bolts thread into. It sandwiches a thinner piece between itself and the body. That thinner piece is what holds the spring in tension. It will make sense when you start assembling.

I can check factory manual at work. We did it at Jeff's but it was a pain if I recall correctly

Thanks Guys,
I guess I'm going to pull it apart. Hope it makes some sense when I get into it. Will have to wait until after last track day Nov. 5th. Dont want to start and not be able to finish.
I don't know if parts are in there broken, or if they were just taken out. I'll have 3 months to get that done, install air dam and get shocks rebuilt before spring track season starts in Feb.
Best,

Best,
I'll look forward to seeing the ex-Big Dog car back on the track. Perhaps we will run into each other at a track event, as Barber has whetted by appetite for DE's (thank you Ted Vinson for great instruction)

Best,
When you are ready, post a few photos of what you have. It is less complicated than you think. I have taken my hood on and off on numerous occasions and always undone those spring retainers (rather than the bolts at the hood). The trick is to put it back with the hood horizontal, or have a friend help. You should not have any trouble.

Yes Blaise, I will. In fact I want to keep a pictorial review of everything I do. So when my son takes over the car....
And Pete, I too hope we meet at the track. Nov is Roebling. I knew I would love driving fast on a road course. Something I wanted to do since the 70's when we used to go to Lime Rock for Memorial Day weekends.
But I found now, it's even better with the E-12. The night before events people stop by and check out the classics ( the car and myself) and on Saturday morning, I am usually giving some guy in a new Vette, Mustang or 911 turbo fits because I'm in their mirror for the session.
Some stop by after the run, or I see them in class, and they all ask if I have a turbo or something. I just respond, nope, but I do have fuel injection.
I am real lucky, the car was set up well for me. Many years of trial and error made it that way. I was just lucky to find it.

Did you buy Brendan's M30 motor?

I don't know where it was from, but it has an M30 in it. Conforti chip, some other goodies. I listed it all on the newbie forum. Only thing I've done so far is some cosmetics, fluids, brake pads and tires.
Over winter the bilsteins get sent out for rebuild, I fix the hood, and attach an air dam. Hoping that's all it needs.
