M30B35, 530i transplant

Post by maxmadill76530i »

Since pondering my ideas with the "Engine transplant wonders" topic and finding a m30b35 from a 91 535i for sale with around 100 thousand k in my city I am now seriously considering this build. I believe the guy has pretty much everything I need for the transplant except for the ECU. He has wiring harnesses so wondering what the best ECU would be? I've heard that the mototronic 1.3 with the last numbers of 179 is the best for turboing.

Also wondering if I will need to change the engine mounts for the b35 or if it will fit right in?

Lastly, ( I know I sound like a rookie, mainly because I am one haha) wanted to know basically all I would need for a full swap, aka everything to get the engine started.

PS. I will also be changing the transmission to a Getrag 265/6, uprading the clutch and pressure plate, and later turboing it with a TCD stage 3 kit.

Thanks, I took a look at the 2.8-3.5 swap and although it is based around the b34 I can still pull alot of information off of it. However, being a b35 I have been wondering about engine mounts. I was planning to use a m30b35 from a 91 535i in my e12. Would this be a complete bolt up? Or would the engine mount adaptors at koala motorsport work?

Thanks for the help!

Not a straight fit but an easy workaround. Some folks even tap the block for the extra hole they need. Some ignore it, some fab something up, some buy stuff others fabbed. All good.

mount question

when I did the swap I just fabed up a mount for the right front and didn't risk the tap. its been solid for years.

Thanks for the help guys. I am planning to go the koala motor mount rout just as I am not a welder (yet) and don't want to risk drilling into the block.

Cheers
