Ok guys. So i got my monster engine out of my e12. Turns out its another engine. As far as i know my car is a 3.0, but the engine has a 3.5 casting in it. Like the cs or csi if im not mistaken. Anyway it was a torture to get that thing out of there. Specially by myself but i got it. Now. Im throwing in my m20b27 with the "i" head swap. So far i see clearance issues with the oil pan and sway bar. Ill let you people know how it goes.

Better handling perhaps :)
The M20 is lighter.
Can't say that the M30 E12 is very convincing on hair pins. At least, mine isn't.

If you want better handling----> 3 series.
M20 vs M30 weight is not that much difference.

Wow.. not much acceptance apparently.. lol there are always reasons. Here it goes. I have an e30 im building for drift. Im throwing a mustang 5.0v8 in it. The e30 had the 2.7block with "i"head. Its low compression which is perfect because im going turbo with it. Reasons? I sold the really tired 3.0/auto trans. I want it for a daily driver and i kinda commute a little so less gas. I have all the setup for turbo, so as i get it running, ill start messing with it. Im located in south California

Beware. Calif smog will allow you to install a newer engine, though you have to meet the regs for the year of the engine, and be inspected and certified the first time at a referee. And they go over things fairly closely. No, very closely.

An e to i swap with Motronic 1.1/1.3 wouldn't be bad for performance or economy, but beware the BAR.

thanks for the advise. The car is a 75, last year exempt from smog check. And for boost yes, you are right im going with 10 pounds pnly, less than a bar.

Are you sure you didn't take out a 3.5L M90?

Either way, looks like you have been doing some work!

I think your swap would be intriguing. I disagree somewhat with the fact that the weight doesn't make a difference. It may only be only 100 lbs or so, but it is all over the front wheels and I believe you will feel in in the handling (you may have to adjust the front springs, it may sit too high).

IMHO, it is similar to the difference between a 528e and 533i...the 528e does feel more tossable.

Good luck with getting it to pass the emissions testing...

The difference between a M20 and M30 is 25kg.

Even moving the battery to the trunk makes some difference.
Having no AC as well.
But probably also would a good suspension.

It all helps but it still aint no 3 series which have a way better weight balance.
