Air filter change interval

Post by RandyM »

Seems just two or three months, and maybe 3000 miles ago I changed my air filter. Now I'm experiencing what I'll characterize as de-surging, especially in gear at stops(auto trans) to the point where it stalls. Also a hiccup on acceleration off the line. Thinking it was what others referred to as trailer hitching, I searched threads then remembered going nuts last time it was running poorly until I pulled the air intake apart and voila' , a spanking clean appearing filter that was impeding airflow. Not a visual trace of microdust on the pleats. Anyone else experienced this? How often do folks replace filters and recommends for best?

Car runs generally great, no vacuum leaks, newer plugs(silbers), fresh oil and filter, recent throttle body adjustment, the usual suspects ruled out.

Stock filter I do every 30K or so, it's not a regular item. Check your timing for lean surge/trailer hitching, too much advance will cause it. Some guys have had problems with the acc pedal bushings being bad causing it too.
