Dinan Sway Bar Mounting Kit

Post by Sog »

I have a 1976 530i that's been sitting since the mid '90's so I'm going through and refreshing all the rubber bits, among other things. I have the receipts from the original owner which show it has a 25mm front and 19mm adjustable rear, Dinan sway bars. The stock OEM "rubber rings" (31351125712) are too wide a diameter and won't fit in the sway bar holes. The "rubber mounting" (31351118393) is 23mm, so too small.

Does anyone know of a place that still sources these? The "rubber ring" that is on the car currently measures:
25mm round/diameter
15mm round/diameter raised area where the grommet fits into the endlink
10mm inner diameter where the bolt goes through
21 or 22mm height

This is really the last piece of the puzzle to getting it on the road and using as my summer daily. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I did look at ST Suspension since I'd read that they have a 25/19 setup, but in looking at the site it is now a 28/22 front/rear setup. I also noticed the e28 M5 has a 25mm front as stock and ordered those, but they are far beefier and won't fit without modification.

The '76 got Dinan bars? nice... Energy is best bet, there is a guy in MI who can custom make bushings in any diameters with several stiffness grades and materials.. but they are more expensive esp on a small run of production, so see if ES has them...

there's these guys too, looks like ES but they make their own.. http://prothane.com/universal-product-g ... de-page-1/

Awesome suggestions! Thanks. I'll order both and see what happens! Thanks for the help researching!

And yes, the receipt is from Dinan (81 Pioneer Way, Mountain View, CA) from the late 80's (1986/87).

I'll update the post here if these are/aren't a match to help anyone else (and myself) in the future. The endlink bushings are shipping Monday, but the sway bar bushings aren't estimated until the 30th. So I'll have to keep looking in the meantime.

Sadly not. The end link grommets/rubber rings are in service-able shape, but the bushings were completely gone so the bar likes to clang. I'm not sure what the impact of running the car without a front swaybar is, so I've been holding off on driving it until that's resolved.

Believe you me, when I find the proper bushings, I'm going to drive the heck out of it to make up for lost time!

It wouldn't handle quite as good, but driving with no front sway bar is no big deal. E12s have nearly identical suspension as E3s and many of them came with out any sway bars. I had to put both on mine.
