Hood Stopper?

Hi All,

For years I have been holding the hood down while releasing the latch so it doesn't fly off and away (so to speak).

So is this the part that would buffer the metal on metal stop...aka stopper part# 51231819847 #3 in the diagram below. Doesn't show you where it it goes but assume it slips on the 2 hinges connecting the hood and body. Can anyone confirm that? I don't seem to be able to find them on my E12 and was wondering if they have just disintegrated and blown away.

REman,

I don't have that particular part on my 76' 530i either.

For comparison's sake, here's my hood latch setup:

Part #3 is nowhere on my bimmer, however, please note that again, it is a 1976. Perhaps this is a later-model addition?

Thanks for reply and photos. I was thinking it was maybe for hinges at the front end of the hood.

Goal being to dampen the the "slam open" effect of coils releasing the hood.
