No click from the AFM flap?

Post by canada karl »

Hey Mike I have spark but no click at the AFM door. When I turn the key I do not here the pump humming. Odd thing is that in previous attempts I would often get the AFM click. I suspect a wiring issue? Should I probably put power to the Gn?Vi wire right at its connection under the combo relay? What to try next concerning the AFM?

OK, spark is good. Key on, you push on the AFM flap and hear nothing? The click should be at the combo relay, not at the AFM, the little contact inside the AFM won't make any noise.

I do not recommend putting power to Gn/Vi except for very brief testing. Yeah, it'll work, but it's not really safe as there's no control. I'll dig in more but it might be a couple of days.

OK, I put some time in on this, lets see how it pastes. Ok, not well, I'll try something else.

Look at this, test, and get back to me.

Hey Mike Here are the test results you asked me to make re no start issues.: Ignition on power to 88y and 86c YES Always power to 88z YES Ignition turned on to start/crank 86a NO Ground at all times for 85 YES Should have continuity between 86b and 88a with AFM flap opened NO ,,,,ohmeter reading jumped around a bit and settled at 129.5 ??? I do have spark to the plugs. The fuel pump only works if I run a live wire from the Batt to the Pos terminal on the pump. I suspect there is an issue with the wiring from the Ignition switch to Combo Relay ...could it be the bk/yl wire from 86a that did not give a reading when I tested. How do I track that down? I had the 530i Combo relay checked out by an electrician friend and it tests good, He even made a schematic diagram of the relay if anyone here would find that usefull.
