Bosch starter sr441x continue

After finally installing new starter: wired the ignition to the 6 ocock position and did not make connection to 12 oclock per info I had.
Nothing at all
Made the realization that my old heavy starter actually had the ignition at 6 oclock position and at 12 oclock position was wire that connected to coil at + side.
I had deduced from my research that the old sr995x starters had ignition at 12 oclock and 6 oclock position was to coil for ballast resistor and the new sr441x had ignition at 6 oclock and did not require wire from 12 oclock to coil for ballast resistor as had permanent magnet - whatever that is
Attempting to start w/ ignition 6 oclock and wire to coil at + side ; engine will not catch.
Attempting to start w/ ignition 6 oclock and no wire to coil result is even worse.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
