Hah. Yes, it is a bit of a mystery. I been on this forum almost from the beginning going back to 1999. Peak of activity was definitely somewhere in the 2000s. The e28 guys have a bit more of a community going. I know a lot of those guys too as they set up some great events for 5ers and other classic BMWs...

I drove my restoration car for the first time yesterday after that welding excursion and putting the entire rear end back together. I'll post a couple highlight pics soon...even if it's just you and me keeping the chairs warm here.

I drove my B35-swapped E12 to the PVGP two weeks ago and on am aborted trip to Michigan today and it is such a great highway car, with torque everywhere. I really love driving it. So, yes, I think it’s awesome

Hey guys.... glad I`m not the olnly one lurking every day
I`ve been a member to serveral boards over the years and it seems to be the same everywhere. I think many found their home on facebook or similar sites... well, I don`t facebook. To be honest, I don`t do a whole lot computer-wise.
The stash of knowledge in all topics on here is great but sometimes it`s nice to pick a brain or two and have some fun along the way..I wish it were easier to post pics on this board.

Those engines are everything you need...
To me the e12 fits like a tailored suit. They really are such nice drivers...

I'm grateful for a new thread! Funny Dutch mentions the car fitting like a suit, the original owner of my E12 said when he sold it to me that of all the cars he's owned, the E12 just fit him. I totally understand what he meant six years later. I'm enjoying driving it, and we've got some really great roads here in middle Tennessee. The E12 really stands out, but I get more compliments on my 1990 F150 here.

I have a bad seam weld on my gas tank. On Sunday I overfilled it and it sat in the sun for 90 minutes and had gas dripping out. So that's the next project here. I'm debating whether to seal my existing tank or suck it up and buy a new one. Has anyone attempted sealing a gas tank? It seems like a seam weld would be a good target for sealing.

I'm also tired of the tick so the head might come off overwinter. I'm also thinking I should pull up the carpet and see if there are any unknown horrors lurking there, with the full knowledge that blissful ignorance isn't always bad, and when you look for rust on an E12 you'll probably find some.

personally, I don`t like tank sealers... ( I did use it on my tractor tho, and it still seems to hold. )
I don`t like anything inside the fuel tank other than fuel. It`s the base of the machine. If any crap in the tank comes loose , you could be in for a couple rounds of chasing tail. Plugged pick up screen, plugged lines, plugged filters , kill fuel pump, crap in carb or injectors...
If the tank is rust free, I`d try welding. If not I`d get a new tank. But that`s what I would do. When I pulled mine, I was surprised it only had one tiny pinhole. Someone attempted repairing that with epoxy. no worky... Tank looks like new inside so I`ll weld it.

Think twice about pulling carpet.... things seen can`t be unseen....

Mine's pretty clean as well, at least from what I can see from the lifting pump hole. I'll need to find a welder that know's what he's doing.

Put new corbeau gts seats in my 1981 today. So much more fun to drive not having bars or springs poking me in the back and butt

I think it maybe due to idiots like me who collect e12's then just let them Rust in the paddock ! - so not much to comment on then.

I started to put the injector system on my 3.5 qtr block last week and discovered I don't have a fuel rail or injector manifold - so I've asked the previous owner if I could come and get them( he dismantled the original 2.8 ltr motor) hopefully this Thursday

Since you guys are speaking on seats at the moment, i was just outside troubleshooting a pair of seats out of a 1986 535i. They are the power comfort seats. The question; has anyone successfully installed these in an (1978) e12? I have some donor seats from a bmw not sure year or make, in there now, but they sit just a little too high, im six feet and i have maybe 1-1/2 -2"of headspace.

please advise

Im currently working on putting a m30b35 in my 530i. I cant wait! Moving slowly and surely, because im having so much fun with the lowly b30 still!

OK. Did my due dilgence. It doenst look good for the seat replacement. Although we evolve, anybody have any bright ideas
