My `76 528 will be my daily when finished.
I`m thinking electronic ignition would be beneficial for reliability...?
What do I need to do and which parts do I need to do the swap? I would like to use original bmw parts if possible.

Most obvious route for the E12 is to get the transistorized ignition of the later 80-81 528i. I did this a long time back (see FAQs), but it's intimately tied to the FI system as I recall or at least the way I did it. Maybe possible on a strategic subset of those parts. I'll leave that to somebody else to comment on feasibility for a carburetor setup.
