Worn cam lobe

Cam lobe over number six shows wear. I'm told it's a result of the oil bar not doing a good job of oiling back there. For that I installed the new style retainer bolts.

As the wear seems to be on the pointy end of the lobe, do we put any windage into the adjustment ? As all the others look fine and this one is just visible, I'm inclined to drive it with economic pragmatism. Not that clicky picky.

#6, that's odd, usually it's #1. That's the only one I even give a close check to, LOL. But adjust it as usual, you will have a couple of thousandths less lift on that valve, but if it's minor I doubt even a dyno let alone seat of the pants would be able to tell. I even put one togther that way on my first E12, just a couple of thou out, caused by a bad rocker arm. Never noticed, nor did it seem to wear any further.

If you or anyone else wants, I have a stock cam that's in great shape in a box ready to be installed. I changed cams for the trubo project I am in the middle of.

Call me if you are interested.

Thanks. Keeping your number for speedo switch to 140, suspecting the gear will fall apart in between. As I have a spare head, just did a rebuild on 528 II, I'm not in the mood to do another tear down.

I'm sure the day I am I'll remember your offer. Maybe I'll call you then and you can laugh.

Could you please tell me where you got the new style retainer bolts.
I have a valve adjustment coming up and would like to put new ones in. Thanks.

just take the old ones to a machine shop or put them on a drill press. They just have a small hole in the head to run safety wire through.

Much cheaper fix is to give the old ones a shot of carb cleaner to degrease and a couple of drops of red locktite to lock them in place. I've never had a locktited one come loose, and I've had some in place for many many miles.

Thank you for all the good tips. When the valve cover comes off we'll see what the best action to take.
