I've removed most of the cabin stuff related to the automatic transmission - wiring from the shifter to the cluster and that relay, swapped in a manual-transmission cluster, etc. For reasons I can't remember, I simply ran a ground for that relay and my car started. I still have the automatic transmi...

The short answer is, Yes. The longer answer is: I was part of a build that put an S50 (externally identical to an M50) into a 1972 Bavaria (not mine). Granted, we used an E28 5er front subframe, but the following ideas are the same. Engine mounts and exhaust manifolds will have to be fabricated. I'm...

And here's an interesting data point: On RealOEM the part number for the automatic and manual pedal brackets is the same. In the diagram, it shows one pedal bracket for both and parts and part numbers for a cover plate that goes over the clutch master cylinder holes when used in auto trans cars. Onl...

Oh, I had totally forgotten about the reverse light circuit! Good to know. Maybe I should leave that harness in the car.

I was actually talking about either bypassing or bridging the wires in that harness so the car will think it's always in Park or Neutral and thus start.

What wires did you bridge? I'm removing that wiring harness while I have the dashboard out in (sort of) prep for a manual-transmission conversion later on.

Thanks!

Automatic Transmission Wiring Harness Removal Question

I've done a bunch of searching and I can't seem to find the answer, so I'll just ask. I'm doing a bunch of cleanup under the dash of my 1981 528iA while said dashboard is out. Removed the AC box, vacuumed up a bunch of dead foam, etc. I'd like to pull the automatic transmission wiring harness since ...

Dashboard Removal Notes

A while back I stripped a rusty 1976 530i parts car that had a very nice interior, particularly the dashboard and door panels/wood. The dashboard and door wood are slated for my 1981 528i. That project began tonight. Some notes: 1. I used the First Fives dashboard removal FAQ, which is truly excelle...
