Re: Replacement A/C Compressor

FYI: Mesa no longer offers the SD508 or the mounting kit. They also lost their rebuilder, though looking for another. Had no suggestions for me. EDIT: Jim at Mesa has a mounting kit for the SD508. Thanks for the update. SD508s are quite easy to find, so it's handy Jim has one kit for anyone that wa...

Re: Replacement A/C Compressor

My limited dealing with Mesa have been very good, so that's certainly an option. I'm fond of the old swashplate compressor, they have served me well for many miles. They were used into at least 83 and maybe some in 84 although some used different hose fittings, but the block for them is just an all...

Re: Replacement A/C Compressor

The e12 uses the same bracket and compressor as the 74 e9, it is an axial compressor and impossible to find. I have a spare that I can have rebuilt with all new seals and bearings by the same guy that rebuilt mine. If you go with a Sanden style you will need a new bracket as the original bracket do...

Re: Replacement A/C Compressor

Anyone know where to get a replacement a/c compressor? OEM or aftermarket? I recommend you contact Mesa Performance Parts. I got my compressor (new SD508) and mounting plate from them. Mesa Performance These guys have been going since 1978, I have dealt with them for 20 years. I really recommend th...

Re: Reinstalling the cat

Gents, my E12 is currently in TN, which requires emission testing on post 1974 cars. It's for all practical purposes an integrity check, which requires a cat on cars originally equipped with one. The PO of my E12 deleted the cat, which is characterized as "tampering" under TN regs. So, I'm going to...

Re: Malaga Red E12 for Sale on Bringatrailer......

I think I prefer the Alpina's and would put some on, if I can bring myself to switch from the stock steel wheels and bottle caps. It is sitting next to my e30 m3 with Alpina's. :) As I said, the car has headers and Bilsteins on the rear anyway. There is a small amount of valve clatter, although Eur...

Re: Malaga Red E12 for Sale on Bringatrailer......

Yeah, the hood you have was for the air filter box of dual carb M30 Euro cars, M10 cars had a completely flat hood. Then, kinda like the dash vents, BMW standardized the hood for all 1977-81 cars Euro and US, 4 and 6 cyl. The Coupe King has Alpina copies at a much lower price, that also happen to b...

Re: Malaga Red E12 for Sale on Bringatrailer......

Thanks, PBP. Being as old as I am, I knew this was a survivor that hardly even had patina, much less wear. Looks and drives more like a 10,000 mile car. I don't believe there is an issue with a single piece of trim inside or out and the paint's still thick. Interesting about the horsehair or lack t...

Re: Malaga Red E12 for Sale on Bringatrailer......

Hello Gordon, and welcome. It's a beautiful car indeed, and such a rare find. Yes, Euro bumpers would look great, although the car already looks super with the impact bumpers. Somehow the impact bumpers always seem to look better on red cars. But yes, Euro bumpers are always king. 8) The e12 sold al...

Re: ZF 3HP22 - goes then stops after 5 mins

Like Mike W. said, you cannot take enough pictures when dismantling automatics. This is usually work for automatic transmission experts. If all else fails try Clifford's Automatic Transmissions, a place in your neck of the woods. I remember someone on First Fives mentioning them years ago concerning...

Re: Malaga Red E12 for Sale on Bringatrailer......

Just for the record here, that was the same car that was advertised for $20K. The Bat seller bought the Malaga from the original CL seller for approx $10K. He then did a bunch of work to it and then sold it on BAT for $15K. Just thought I'd mention this in case anyone was interested. I followed the...

Re: Malaga Red E12 for Sale on Bringatrailer......

It's in Portland Oregon. I thought you guys might want to have a look. It's in great condition. No affiliation Thanks for the heads up Canada Karl. It sold for $15,500. A solid result for these economic times. 8) I think I saw the very same car advertised on Craigs List for 20k earlier, but it had ...

Re: Turbo E12

The late 80s 3.5 is probably the best candidate for a stock turbo, the heads rarely crack and the head gasket design makes it slightly less likely to blow a HG. They used to be everywhere and dirt cheap but as E28s have become rare and collectable, not to much. But even a stock low compression 3.5 ...

Re: Turbo E12

HP doesn't come cheap for any make. There is no such thing as a cheap Craig's list LS motor or swap. I believe the bolt on kits back in the day were running around 5-6 psi, working with stock compression 8.1:1. And that was enough to get 0-60 mph in 7 to 7.5 seconds on a 530i or 630i, which was flyi...

Re: Turbo E12

Hey everyone! Has any one ever done or heard of a turbo e12 and if so, would be able to point me towards that info? I would hope to keep the same engine so it still fits without much hassle. I want to be able to add more power without doing a complete engine swap. I appreciate any feedback you may ...
