Re: 77 530i brake booster removal???
Thanks for the tip. I 'll buy one of those half moon wrenches. In the meantime I cut an old 8" wrench in half and used the 12 point end on the nut. When I got the booster out I was surprised to see it 1/3 full of oil. I probably had the vacuum one way valve in backwards at one time? Found a spa...

77 530i brake booster removal???
How in the world do you remove the bottom nut on the stud that holds the booster on? The bottom one on the drivers side in that inaccessible hell hole? Cant get at with 13mm wrench or get a socket on it. Has anybody been there and done that?

Re: Brake booster rod adjustment? 77 530i
Mike I do not know how the 0.020" clearance is to be set. The brake booster on the 530i is like a big cavern. I was able to disconnect and pull back the MC enough to see inside without disconnecting the brake lines. I'm new to working on brake boosters but I assume the push rod would have a loc...

Re: Brake booster rod adjustment? 77 530i
Hi Mike I just measured the depth of the rod and it appears to be on spec at 1.92" so My theory that the rod is not adjusted properly is probably wrong. I do hear the air hissing coming from the booster so I believe the booster has failed. Can the booster fail and intermitenly lock the brakes o...

Brake booster rod adjustment? 77 530i
Most brake boosters have a method of adjusting the push rod but I don't see it here. The reason I want to adjust is because the calipers are locking on.

Re: Brake booster one way check valve?
Thanks for the pic. Can you think of any reason why I would be getting a hard brake pedal and poor braking? Car slows down but you have to really press down on the pedal.Other evidence is brownish brake fluid in the MC. I may try bleeding the brakes and installing fresh fluid to see if that helps. T...

Re: Which distributor do I need? 528i
The distributor to head bolt must have been missing. That's the only way it would get "spit out".

Steering lock kill switch?
Sometimes when I go to start the car there's nothing there when I turn the key. Moving the steering wheel or jiggling the key and the power comes back. Must be an inner column wiring thing. Anyone been there and knows how to access and what to look for?

Re: When a brake vacuum booster fails?
The calipers and MC are fairly new but I will check for leaks. i think you might be on to something with that one way valve. What symptoms if it fails? I will check that out as I think I have a spare. The brake boosters on these cars often fill with fluid....is that motor oil being sucked in? The br...

When a brake vacuum booster fails?
Backed the 77 530i out of the driveway and only had about half pedal resistance to get braking and had to press fairly hard to stop. Previously only about an inch down on the pedal to get good braking. Does this sound like a brake vacuum booster problem. I do not see any external leaks in the system...
