I had an A/C clutch fail that way. It made a low grinding sound. I was on my way from MA to CO in '83 and had to cut the belt off. Had it fixed in San Antonio when the voltage regulator decided to quit on me too.

Cooling Fan Candidate

For those of you in hot climes ...

Hey, I was just working on my son's 2004 Crown Vic. It does not have an engine-driven fan. And, I noticed that it has an enormous 2-speed cooling fan. It was in the mid nineties today. The car was idling happily with the A/C on.

I think the fan could be adapted ...

Exhaust

Oh yeah. Get the E34 manifolds and cat. They'll fit nicely under the E12. And you can graft it to the E12 exhaust system w/o much trouble. I think Karl was the pioneer on that if memory serves.

It will run like a bat out of hell and get better gas mileage too! Around town you'll shift up quicker and therefore shift less. It's ALL GOOD!!

FWIW, I chased a fuel consumption problem for about year. Did a lot of work -- plugs, wires, vacuum hoses, AFM recalibration. I finally discovered that the real problem was the trip meter (and odometer). It was registering about half the miles.
