Re: HELP: Water Valve Replacement
Ok. I've learned a lot. When entering my VIN into Real OEM, it indicates that the correct Water Valve part nr for my car is 6411 1359 634. I just visually confirmed on two separate valves (one a used 77 530i and the other is NOS in Greece that I purchased on ebay) that part nrs 6411 1359 634 and 641...

Re: HELP: Speedo Cable Mystery
That would definitely work. its just that my illness come from being a pure stock guy. So I want everything to work as it should when the car was built in 81. So I would have the elusive third cable made, if stock is NLA. I know this is not exactly what others would necessarily do, however.

Re: HELP: Speedo Cable Mystery
Indeed it is unfortunate. Mercedes crushes parts availability. Pya thru the nose, but its an option that keeps their old cars on the road as a testament to heritage and durability and popularity and eventually... value. Good thing here is that I suppose I can have one custom made by sending the old ...

Re: HELP: Water Valve Replacement
Well, Shmiedmann, as it turns out does not have one and cannot get it "at this time". So, I guess I will investigate 64111360820 as an option. Stay tuned, Mike. Let me know if you have any other thoughts on this puppy.

Re: HELP: Water Valve Replacement
Thanks, Mike. You are a loyal source dedicated to us all when lost. I keep forgetting about Schiedmann. I’ll reach out to inquire as to availability. (I’m so curious as to the poss application of the x820, tho). But it’s no small task to possibly learn the hard way since the part is found in the bow...

HELP: Water Valve Replacement
In preparation for my trip up to “The Vintage” (now postponed once again) in Boiling Springs, I have discovered the need to replace the leaking water valve on my 81 528i. This 64111359634 part is NLA. BUT... Absent anyone in this forum stepping forward to sell me one, I wonder why I can’t use part 6...

Re: HELP: Speedo Cable Mystery
Not sure I understand. So you saying that from the tranny to Shorty out the back of the Speedo is one long cable now? ...and the bracket where Nr2 and 3 join is bypassed? If so, I cannot find a part number for such a cable because they seem to be way too short.

HELP: Speedo Cable Mystery
I have 3 sections of cable on my 81 528i. First, there is a "Shorty" (about 310mm tip to tip) coming out of the back of the Speedo. Shorty connects to a Nr-2 cable just inside of the firewall behind the brake pedal. The other end of Nr-2 makes its connection at a welded bracket where it me...

Re: Verify color of FRONT FOG LAMP switch
Particularly when the darn button unscrews! BMW refuses to ship this part to the US. They claim that it was not a stock part for US cars so they wont ship it here, even though they shipped plenty of them to the dealer who installed them when their customers wanted fog lights. It blows me away. I esc...

Verify color of FRONT FOG LAMP switch
Back in the early 90's, I stripped a few e12's to cannibalize them for their parts. I seem to recall that the switches burned amber in the center of the little buttons. So, I was surprised to see my new switch arrive from Germany and be green. Maybe the colors were different for different model year...

Re: Fuel Gauge Problem
Eric. i need a sanity check. (Stop laughing now). Go to your car. Look at your fuel gauge. Turn the engine on so the needle registers your fuel level (must have engine on). then turn engine off. watch carefully to see if your needle pauses on its way to the final stop which is below the amber lens i...

Fuel Gauge Problem
'81 528i: Recently, I noticed that my fuel gauge was off by about 1/4 of a tan. It now shows a level higher by 1/4 than it actually is. I replaced the sender unit, as I thought it was surely the culprit. No so. Currently the tank is very low. But the needle shows 1/4 tank when the engine is running....

Re: HELP with Blower Fan Dial
Hey Mike. I just now saw your post. I wound up shooting some CRC C-26 in the dial edge area hoping it would flow down, and it did. I had to blot as you would expect. but it did not take much and it is a whole lot better. I still want to follow through with your more thorough approach, but did not ha...

Re: HELP Sliding Roof
T... I sent you a Private Message to see if I could phone you to go over some of the finer points of this job. My new parts are in and I am dying to get my sun roof repaired, but after removing those nuts, the lid still does not come out. Apparently, there are other steps to follow and I dont want t...

Re: HELP Sliding Roof
My roof is both a sliding AND tilting roof. Not a particularly insignificant detail to omit from my post. The removal process is different here and the shop manual is vague at best. Wallace... Hanson... any ideas guys?
