You can Google search fixing the hazzard switch yourself. Drop the kick panel, the switch is held in the dash by two plastic tabs at three and nine, that have to be squeezed in, to push the switch out the front. ( You can't pry it out by a screwdriver under the front plate.) The clear cover on the f...

Water pump bench test
Bolt through type. Redoing engine, pump was working fine. Besides exterior dirty it looks fine. Very very tiny amount of play wiggling front hub, quiet spinning.
I've had the car eight years, 4,000 miles.
So, to use or junk.

Fan clutch removal
Older type has a bolt in the center, my opinion says needs the radiator out to properly remove or install, tighten. When you remove the bolt you'll see it has two tabs, notches that have to fit together. I found it strange, the fan assembly was wobbly, sloppy until the last quarter, half turn to tig...

Oily soot, etc.
What causes oily black soot in the intake runners and throttle body ? Yich. The car ran fine. Amazing to take things apart and see the grease, dirt, corrosion that didn't seem to matter. More amazing: To see the tiny needle bearings in the throttle body for the shaft, and all the parts in good shape...

Thanks
Thanks for offering. So far I've got a spare harness full of plugs. If they are too hard and crunchy to work with the rubber sleeves, connectors, I'll yell.

Fuel lines
No idea when previous owner looked at them. Let's say 28 years is possible. After the line to the fuel filter split lengthwise, dumped three gallons of gas under the car, in the garage, while I sat there reving it wondering why it kept dying, I'm a fuel line warning person. Taking the fuel rail apar...

Engine rebuild, Fuel injector plug caps
Dry run 635 last year, runs great. Still, as I'm making another pile of parts I wonder what I think I'm doing. Must be a thousand things that have to go together exactly right, and tight, or no start and I'll be scratching my head bald. I think the fuel injector and sensor (brittle plastic) square p...

Engine out/in
Is pulling the hood / bonnet ( with an assistant ) a big deal ? Seems I read a post or two expressing complications. If the rear of the engine uses the bell housing, trans and that cross member for support, how does one go about supporting the rear of the engine without those things in place ? As in...

Torques, etc.
The aluminum ( surface ) explanation sounds logical. As the duck plate is steel and you like blue thread locker, puny wave washers appear to be one option, with others plausible. I have lists of torque numbers but I like yours as a hedge for not having to thumb through books. One caveat, could you t...

Wave washers, fasteners, etc.
Why wave washers ? What do they do, all thin and puny, besides crack in half. Really nuts, BMW parts lists say 49 cents each or more. Half hearted Google finds a bag of 100 for a few bucks. Two duck plates removed show the bolts deform them. My foggy engineering solution is more washer around the bo...

Fuel pump rod ?
Haynes has a photo of a fuel pump push rod, to be removed from the head on disassembly. One of those mushy glop dark close up photos too close to orientate to any other recognizable parts.
Who's nuts, Haynes or me, that can't find anything like it on either side of my M30 head.

The duck: washers, etc.
I know the location of the bolt that uses the O ring ( Haynes photo ) but the parts drawing is confusing. For fun, what came off had a thicker steel washer where the O ring, red fiber washer should have been and one wave washer. Am I correct with 12110002735 O ring, against duck plate, then wave was...

Good if you really found Eibachs, but they've been NLA for a long time. Google search previous posts for (I've forgotten) ST, B&G, H&M whatever they are. Used sets show up every now and then, new seem to be hard to actually get delivered. Some take the option of cutting coils of the stock sp...

Replacing engine
Getting ready to replace an engine. Any tips from experience ? Plan to pull radiator, clutch, trans, bell housing, install without fan, ribs, injector rail. There is a bracket up front that looks suitable for picker chain, what do we use rear ? Is crank nut tightened once the engine is installed to ...

If we think it's worth your bother for the thick among us, like me, I would take photos, edit a FAQ to submit. Without going out there and sorting backwards from any wires that may lead to the aux fan, (under, around radiator, charcoal canister, etc.) I would have no idea what plug, connector to put...
