Is changing out a crank position sensor a pretty straightforward install?
1976 530i. BMW 59 Triumph TR3A(rolling resto). 67 Triumph TR4A(salvageable). 86 900S Winter car

It should be fairly easy, although like the speed and reference sensors I cn imagine they may get stuck and be a bitch. What car? e12s don't have those

82 633i I'm thinking of buying because it has the E12 frame. Would there normally be two sensors at the flywheel for the Motronic ie. speed and references sensors?
Any idea if E12 seats would bolt into an E24??

It may be a transitional car with the e12 body, frame and interior but the series 2 engine with motronic and yes two sensors on the bellhousing for speed and ref. As for the seats I would say no, probably not but anything is possible. I have both e12 and early e24 and seats are shaped quite differently. The e12 seats are bigger and maybe more upright, not sure.

Yes the E24 I have in mind is the transitional one but it does not have the rear wrap around type bumper that the later cars had so I'm pretty sure it has the E12 frame. Apparently the car has a rebuilt ecu and cranks but wont start? Mike W has given me some links on the Motronic set up in those models. In what order would you start doing tests to try and track down the no start? I understand that the dist rotor can sometimes fail but there is the main relay that may have gone bad? I suppose basic spark to the plugs etc would be a good place to start and then fuel to the injectors etc. Since you own an E24 and probably know E24 owners that have had issues have you come across any typical ignition part failures specific to this model that would cause the no start? Any info appreciated.
