Injector questions

Post by Martin »

Hi Guys, and thanks for all your help so far.

I have a few questions about the injectors and fuel rail on my 80 528i

To change the hoses between the rail and injectors you heat them with a soldering iron and pull them off, then use worm clamps on the new hoses that you install?????

were the injectors go into the intake is there another seal besides the one that is part of the injector cap?

I just replaced my head gasket, and the number one injector is leaking. not sure if it is from the hose, or from were it meets the manifold. I am waiting for someone to get home to crank the engine wile I look.

Any sugestions???

P.S. Thanks to Pete for getting the porn out, and creating this site it is the best tool for fixing this old car.

That's how the book says to do it, but I've always carefully cut it away with an exacto knife. I've heard of some people getting carried away that way, damaging the barbs and ending up with leaks, but I've never had a problem. And I'm nervous about heat and gasoline.

There is an additional seal, but it doesn't actually seal anything, just a rubber ring that is part of the way it mounts to the intake stub.

My suggestion on troubleshooting would be to spray it down real good with some carb cleaner to get it good and clean so you can tell exactly where it's leaking from. Oh, and use good BMW FI hose.

Whenever I'm into this part of the engine, I replace all the fuel hoses between rail and injector. New seal rings below the injectors too, they're inexpensive. I never use the seal rings twice. Fuel line from the dealer, one meter does the whole engine. The soldering iron works great, I used to razor knife the old hoses off, till I nicked one and learned about the soldering iron trick. Run the engine (it'll run 2 seconds) with the fuel pump fuse out to reduce line pressure.

If you want the entire fuel rail, manifold and non leaking injectors, call me. I just pulled mine off and will not be using it ever again I hope. Comes off a 1980 528i.
