Broken Part... ever seen this before?

Post by socalfiver »

After my radiator replacement, my car has been making a weird loud noise when I shut off. I noticed my fan was spinning too easily, and I though the clutch was shot. Took the radiator out again, removed the fan... this is what I found to be the problem:

That's the front fan spacer. The crown broke off of it! According to realoem.com, it was supposed to have had a washer, assumedly to prevent exactly this from happening.

edit* There actually was a washer, and the break is all around the perimeter of it. The break is blackened inside, so it looks like this had been developing for some time. *

Can I fake one of these with an assemblage of washers from the hardware store?? Does anyone have an extra? I'm having trouble locating this exact part name. The realoem drawings show something a little different than this.

No, I think you need the right part on it. I was going to say if you can't find it I probably have one, but it shows up on Autohausaz.

Get the right one, fan issues can get nasty leading to things like a broken water pump and fan in the radiator.

thanks, Mike. I haven't been to Autohausaz before. The drawing on realoem.com is longer and not keyed, but you nailed the exact part. Ordering today.

Whoa!!! $10.50 to mail a $7 washer through USPS! For that price, I could order from the dealer! I wish I needed other stuff right now, because that is a huge rip-off for shipping.

Try Steve at BluntTech.com next time.
He'll usually match or beat AZ prices and beat shipping too.

I knew what you were looking for and that's just the first place I looked.

Yeah, a lot of times for little stuff you're better off just going to the dealer. There's minimums on shipping and just as much time for them to package a .29 part as a $200 one many times. All of which is why I try never to sell anything for less than $20 if I'm shipping it!
