That suggests to me things are ok.

I'm satisfied with the temp readings from the "gun" and think that based on my diagnostics that the aux fan will come on when needed.

Don't be. Stick a piece of cardboard in front of the radiator to test it.

Don't forget the FAQ "Instrument Cluster Removal and Refurbish". The last segment talks about removing the actual display instrument cleaning the contacts. I did this and the needle moved left in general.

I however, I have a similar problem. When the outside temp is 80f or above in traffic, the needle goes right of center when but driving on the freeway goes back left. I have a new e28 radiator. From past posts I believe I have an air flow problem. I do not have a Fan shroud I plan on getting a e28 model from a p n p. My current fan has 9 blades. I may install a 7 blade fan ( which I have) the has larger fans mainly in the width but also about an inch taller.

What I find so distressing is the swing between the low and the high temp readings.

Does anyone has info or opinion on shrouds or blades, or some combination of the two?
