High Altitude "Jumpers" on my 530i/ High altitude

Post by cpalmer »

Ummm....

After frying my pertronix, and going back to points, I am interested again on the jumpers and am a little confused about these as I may be doing some high altitude driving soon.

I've read they come out of the ECU and are in the glove box.

Are they the smaller wire harness next to the big one that looks like a resistor or ballast plug?

Do I just connect or disconnect them? They are connected right now, I think, if I am looking at the right thing.

Is this done instead of advancing the timing a touch before hitting the mountains?

I've also heard some mention a "switch" but I don't see one. Actually, I don't anything in my manual at all or too much in the archives about these.

Any enlightenment would be appreciated. Thanks!
