Gas tank, weird in tank pump.

OT, 630 / 635 mix and match has an odd deal where the in tank pump is on 528's. Can't see any bolts/nuts to remove,...what doesn't look like a pump anyway.
Just two hose fittings, plug in on a disc that looks welded or press fit. Did 530's have a similar deal ?
Sixer coupe sites are more work to decipher,...but I will if I have to.

Yeah, it wasn't until 79 and the 528i that E12s got the intank pump. Which is one more reason I'm convinced it's not really necessary except to fully drain the tank. 6's were probably the same way.

Do we leave it alone ?
Parts drawing shows bolt holes, that ain't in real life. Separate part in drawing, with screen, but it sure looks welded in to me.
What is the connector at the top ? The fuel level needle is spastic.

The assembly is a camlock, cross two screwdrivers and twist it counterclockwise to remove it. The electrical connector at the top is for the fuel gauge and low fuel light. After 30 years the connection that slides back and forth on the resistance wire in the sending unit no longer makes a perfect connection. I'm not sure if there's a fix without a new sending unit. Always trust the low fuel light (assuming it works) as it's a set contact at the bottom and should always turn on at the same point.
And yes, leave it alone as long as it's not leaking and you don't seem to have fuel delivery problems. There is a screen in the bottom of the pickup that can be cleaned, but I've never had to.

See how great it is there's you ?!
Do you know how many things I've had to bust, to find out they had a reverse, push, release clip ? No idea how that tank deal went in. Plus a tank of gasoline for suspense.
Best, just like my Dad, " Leave it alone."
Good answer. Thank you,

One more thing, never try and pull the sending unit with a full tank of gas, the opening for it is below the top of the tank and you can dump a pretty significant amount of gas out into the trunk. Ask me how I know...
