This probably will apply to all coarse splined steering wheels, meaning 85 and earlier, but I did an M tech so that's why it's titled so.
It slides on fine. But the turn signals won't cancel. So I had to shim the turn signal switch out a bit, 1 or 2MM or so towards the driver to get that part to work. That worked fine, but it was too close to the steering column cover so the "flash" the headlights function wouldn't work. So I filed on the cover a bit until I had clearance, easy as it's aluminum. Next I noticed the contact for the horn wasn't touching the slip ring so I drilled out those rivets and put a couple of 1/4-20 nuts in for spacers. Then finally I couldn't get the wheel tight, so I had to install a couple of washers on the shaft so the nut would tighten up.
A lot more than I expected, an hour or two, but now I have a nice Mtech wheel on there.

I wonder if that was the wheel that got ground in past the splines and if that was because he took the spacer off to eliminate the problem I ran into?wkohler wrote:Sherman put a 533 wheel on his car. Did he have those issues?
Nope, never tried it.BTW, did you try an E12 wheel on your 535? Did it work?
