Door Stop?

The thing that stops the driver's door from hitting the front fender if opened all the way.
Mine dropped off. At first I couldn't open the door far enough, then, of course, I heard the inside part fall into the door. I have the big blue factory manual & a Haynes. But, what I see in my hands doesn't match the pictures.
I forget the page, but, it's section 51 in the blue book.
Can anyone give me a better description of how to fix it?
This is on the '75 I just bought.
I wish I could send pix's, but I tried to send some to John & my computer said 'sent', but, John didn't receive the pix's of some seats that Coupe King has, even with John guiding me. Thanx in Advance,,,,Greg
BTW, check out 'coupeking.com'. WOW!

They call that a door check strap. I thought the blue binder did a pretty good job explaining it. Been a while since I looked.

Thanx, Chris.
Someone here was asking about how to fix theirs. I hope they chime in.

I believe the fix is to replace with the updated, non-cast version from e28.
Both my driver's and Passenger front are broken, making the doors close on you if you're on a hill.

I bought a passenger side to test, but haven't put it in yet.

Both front straps were broken on my car. Here are some photos from door repair:

I did switch to the later style system. It seems like a much stronger strap.

There is some modifying to do.

I got my replacement strap from an E12 at the pic n pull. I think that it is the same as an E28 strap. I did look at a replacement strap that was the same as my original, but it was clear that it would not last long.

As for removing the old strap, you have to get into the door panel to remove it. There are two bolts that hold it to the door, accessed from the outside. The pin at the door pillar must be driven out.

Don't forget the lock ring (51 21 1 854 873) for the pin.
