If the manufacter date on the door sticker of this 535 reads 12/81, it should be compatible with the '80/ '81 e12, right? Is it the speedo cable, or what? I think, it was a 5spd. I think. It may not be there for the 1/2 price sale though. Again, what's the advantage fuel wise? Other than power, what else? Go Lakers,,,,Greg

Weird, that's a really late build e12 then. And if it's a 535i, are you sure it isn't an M535i?
More details including the vin # can settle this for sure. If the vin # ends in 4145xxx you have yourself a bonafide E12 M535i, and we need more details!

That would be well into E28 production, are you sure someone didn't slap a 535 badge onto a 528e? Which side does the hood open from?

OOPS! I went back today, & verified it to be an '84. Oh well, huh Adam? Cheap thrill for me too. Part of the decal is chewed up, making it hard to read the other part of the 4. With the open top the 4 looked like a 1 till I really stared at it. I also checked the vin. Mike, it opens from the radiator side, of course. I was purty sure it had the e28 body. It is a 5spd. The engine looks unmolested though. Except I snagged the coil wire. Didn't tell ya my coil wire story, huh? Small shadetree!
What's the cut-off date for it to be a natural fit to the e12? The engine would cost $450.00 regardless of condition. Tranny $235.00. And then, there's the 1/2 price sale. If it's still there! I didn't look for the 3.2/3.5 stamp. It's a Volvo away from the middle walking row at the one N. of PCH on Blinn. Dark Grey, not Charcoal. There's also one S. of PCH on Blinn; must have an overload.
Thanx for the response,,,,Greg

If it is an 85 535i, it would have the desirable G265 tranny. That might be worth it on a half price day if you could even imagine needing it. And 85 model year of course started in 84, so I'm guessing it is an 85.
