77 530i Auto trans "kick down" linkage picture?

Post by canada karl »

Anyone have a picture of this linkage? To me what I see on my car looks fabricated by the PO.

I don't think that 79 528i is the same as Karls 77 530i. My 77 530i didn't have that cable coming from the throttle body. Is that the accelerator cable?. My 77 has a solid rod and pivot type accelerator linkage.

Karl my car had the Borg warner 3 spd, unfortunately I just removed all that and took the tranny to the dump. I may have some of the linkage stuff, but I'll have to hunt for it.

OK, interesting. I was just looking at pics of my engine in my gallery project posting and my 77 doesn't have that cable coming from the TB. I do remember a cable I think that was attached to the throttle linkage down under where it connected to the gas pedal. I think.... :?
I have to go through my spare junk parts that came off when I removed the ZF. I just realized mine wasnt a Borg Warner.

Karl you're sure your 77 has a BW trans?

Heres a pic of the ZF after surgical removal and its lying , bleeding to death. . There is a cable coming out of it. The shifter is a rod so it must be the kickdown actuator. I'll do a little more looking around and see if I can find some more pieces

I think I have found the problem. If you have a Haynes manual on page 124 it shows the ZF 3HP-22 and the BW 65. I believe at some point the ZF was swapped out for a BW because my car has the "vertical throttle linkage" setup like the ZF but the rest of the linkage is cobbled together to look like the BW 65 setup???? I think maybe someone got a BW Auto from the wrecker but forgot to take the linkage for it?
I have pics but am not familiar with posting pics on this site.
I'll be looking for a complete BW65 throttle linkage assembly if you know where I can get one.....no more E12's at the wreckers here anymore.

The BW was used thru 1976 and then BMW went back to the ZF in 1977. The throttle lever pulls on the cable in my photo which goes back to the transmission. Hope this helps.
