Would accidently leaving the key in on.....

Post by canada karl »

position for 5 minutes cause the coil to get hot or is something else going on? Also on a 530i what is the metal domed shaped item with the red plastic cap? It sits between the combo relay and the radiator overflow tank. Has a red and white I always assumed this w wire connector and what appears to be a couple of vacuum connectors? I always assumed this had something to do with old air pollution gak that I removed years ago?

Yes, coils get hot with the ignition left on.

Without seeing your mystery part I'd guess it was part of the EGR system. They had 2 or 3 different vacuum switching valves with different colors depending on the exact function.
