Thank you.. hopefully she stays running

So a big thank you to your responses. The guy at the shop where the car was (Autohaus in Burlingame, CA) actually had the car for more than a month. He never once called me, and when I would call he would barely acknowledge me and would say "ya, ya, we almost have it figured out"
Finally a few weeks ...

Ignition resistor - thank you I will take a look

Thank you for the advice on the ignition resistor. I will drop in the shop and see if I can locate it... that would be great if that was the only issue! I'll post back after checking it out.

Fuel pressure regulator

I know very little of it. Would you be able to provide me some advice on how to troubleshoot the fuel pressure reg? I'll do a search on the posts here and google as well. I did not think to consider it.

Engine turns over, have spark, fuel pump works.. no start

Came down a few minutes ...

Bypass switch with fuse is doing the job for now.

For the time being, I added a fuse to be safe and have been using a flick switch connected to the starter and I just turn the key into the running position and then flick it on until she revs to life then flick it off.
Bigger fish to fry now... see new post...

Follow up on response for click no start

If you have a a wiring diagram, the diagnose plug in the fuse box has a pin (can't recall which one now) where you can test the starter signal. Using a voltmeter, at least you know if things between fuse box and ignition are working. And using an Ohmmeter, you can check from there conductivity ...

No Start - Click but starter does not get the signal

Out of the blue my 1979 528i stopped starting (4 speed manual).
1. Swapped in a new starter cable and cleaned all of the connections
no go
2. Found a rebuilt starter for a good deal so went for it
no go
3. On the recommendation of my mechanic, get out the volt meter and check the signal wire to the ...
