How exactly do they not bolt up? The downpipes have to be replaced as well to the euro, or the pre-smog E9/E3, PNs: 18111246262 and 18111246255.

I had the same feeling about my '76 3.0Si (same engine and exhaust system pretty much as yours) with a new BMW/Bosal center and rear muffler. The idle sounds truckish to me but very smooth and quiet once under way.

I just got under it this week to change the ATF and check on the guibo alignment so ...

Alternative, cheaper top mount

There might be an alternative top mount, or top strut bearing, to PN 31331101663 which currently lists for $198.30.

PN 31331106060 appears to be an identical mount except for the length of the mounting studs and it's only $73.65 as of now. Both the 060 and 663 mounts show in the parts diagram for ...

#7 and #9 are coolant lines. They heat the throttle body by circulating coolant to the small chamber underneath the TB. It can't affect your idle, except maybe in cold conditions, prior to full engine warm up, by delaying the warming of the TB and thus having too much fuel condensation on it.

That's K-Jetronic. Did the car come from Japan? Email the BMW archives with the VIN and they'll tell you where it was delivered and when. Andreas.Harz@partner.bmwgroup.com or info.konzernarchiv@bmw.de .

This is interesting. I can only find one reference to an E12 520i and it indicates K jet injection and it's an '83 model (Carfolio). A Japanese brochure calls it out as a model but gives no specs for it. No European or US E12 sales brochure (of 6 different ones)calls it out. Do you have a picture of ...

This is what the reactors look like. Note the smaller diameter air pipe running on top of them.

Did you consider having them professionally cleaned with a service such as www.witchhunter.com instead of buying new ones?

Heater control valve question

Hey guys, there's an ongoing discussion in the E9 board about adapting an aftermarket heater control valve to the E9's since otherwise the hot coolant continually circulates thus combating the cooling power of the AC.

Everyone feels a bypass valve is needed in order to not block that flow of ...

OK, I see. My bad. I wonder if the stuff is sufficiently fuzzy, as in my E9 and E3, such that a sharp, perfect cut with a Sears Handicut or a shear, would yield a joint which would not be all that visible. Otherwise the E24 part would be worth eyeballing to see if it's the same...

Re: anyone done window guides & weatherstripping lately?

I've basically sourced almost everything, except the weatherstripping materials (interior/exterior seals that hug the window bottom) for earlier E12s appear NLA.

Robert,

What makes you say they are NLA? Although I've not called the dealer to ascertain availability, my experience has been that ...

Hi Blaise,

Of course you mean the right side of the motor (passenger) and it's a screw plug/shoulder nut, as T.H. wrote, not a bolt. Make sure the leak is really from that joint and not from the nearby lower chain cover / upper cover / block / head joint which is a common leak area. Get a new cruch ...

Thanks for all the suggestions. I ended up having to disassemble the AFM since the rotating flap assembly was slightly dragging on the bottom of the case. The top is adhered to the box via some adhesive and also some little posts protrude though it and are either melted or pressed into the top. Hard ...
