This getrag will fit your car, but you won’t be able to connect speedo cable on it.
I have the same one I give you for $100 plus shipping

I've been researching what I'm going to need for a 5 speed conversion and was wondering if this would be a direct fit into an 81 E12 528ihttp://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/pts/2801756338.htmlI'm pretty sure it is since it's coming out of a 633, just wanted to confirm!Great site here btw, gotta post up some pics of my baby soon

I thought that the 1981 528i did come with a 5 speed....unless yours is automatic
If you are converting from an automatic....there is a little more to it than the FAQ mentions.
thanks for the responses!
yes, i am converting from an automatic. I'll keep searching through the archives of this forum to collect more info on what is involved, and maybe it would be wise to invest in a service manual?

A service manual is certainly nice to have.
I can help you with the conversion, as I just did it. It is not a huge deal, just some more parts needed than is listed on the FAQ.
