Strut nut removal tool

I apologize if this has already been discussed (I have to believe it has) but I can't find any definitive answers by searching (here or elsewhere).

Without resorting to chisels/BFH's and plumbing tools ( :shock: ) where can a suitable tool be found to remove the strut nut (threaded ring). Mine looks like this:

The closest I've come to finding something that might work is this:

This is such a common part and service item I just can't believe professionals are attacking it on a daily basis with dull knives and sticks... :?

A large channellocks or a pipe wrench works well. Given the sometimes need for a cheater on a pipe wrench I'm not sure the one pictured would even hold up to a single challenging job.

Not sure about all struts, but for Bilsteins, you use a special tool. They must be cheap becuase my mechanic just gave me one. It even has the correct torque setting stamped on to it for easy reference.

Thanks Pete. Yes, I have that tool and it is smaller than what I need for the nut shown in my photo.

That's a nice tool if you have it and an ideal way of doing it, but I'm sticking with my original .02, a pipe wrench. Especially in rust country, which I'm fortunate enough not to live in.
