Slow window winding?

Post by canada karl »

Anyone have a link on how to speed up the up and down movement of the electric windows? I'm sure it's been covered before.....something about old grease rather than the motors themselves. Karl

In lieu of searching the archives,...

It's a matter of finding, removing the screws in the door panel, getting a wide screwdriver or fingers to find, get next to the nylon plastic push clips along the bottom to pull them out. A warm day helps them not to break or rip the press board door panel.

Once the panel is off it's a fine opportunity to check for rust, clear drain holes along the bottom of the door. The rest is pretty much a matter of seeing the hinges, tracks, gears in the scissors contraption the motor uses to raise and lower the window. Use gunk or rust penetrant on a tooth brush if they are really fudgey. Wipe clean then oil or grease.

Connecting the switch with the panel off allows you to check the progress of your cleaning efforts.

30 year old grease is glue. However by modern standards they weren't very fast when they were new. Even 528i's which got bigger front motors weren't all that fast.
