What is the correct thermostat for winter driving?

Heater
i'm getting warm air thru the defrost but only slightly warm air thru the under dash vents. The heater valve is new. What I might try is disconnecting the the two hoses to the heater.Pour in a container of "CLR"followed by boiling water.Let it steep.Flush. That way I won't have to pull the heater core.

Heater again
This just occurred to me. Does the short heater hose that comes from the block, and is in-between the manifold runners ,the one that goes to the "TOP" heater inlet or do I have them reversed?

Yeah, you're right but I think of it the other way. I think of it, since the flow goes that way, of it going from the back of the head, to the lower heater inlet nipple.

Mike Can you check your 528i to see how that is set up?
