Issue with accelerating past 40 mph...hiccups NEED HELP!

ok i think i have narrowed it down. When i lift the tiny arm on the electrical part from connecting - it revs great no hiccups.
issue now is what is causing the connection to send misfire? and which part do i replace?

I think you mean the throttle position switch?
There are three blades on that switch.
When you are revving, which ones are connecting?
The top two blades?
If so, with your foot on the gas the top two should be NOT connecting.
You need to adjust the switch by undoing the two phillips screws and moving the switch around to get it right. You want it pretty much to disconnect the top two blades when you step on the gas. If not, you will get the wrong mixture- it is telling your cars ecu to tell the injectors to give idle mixture, not mixture for moving. I think.
Maybe I need to readjust too...

Assuming that's the throttle position switch, pull the connector off, it should run fine without it. Either my memory is bad or that's a different one than I've seen before, even without the cover. Regardless, it sounds like the throttle position switch is saying it's at idle and not allowing enough fuel to be injected. Many people think it's more complicated, but it's just a basic switch telling the ECU I'm at idle or I'm at WOT(wide open throttle) which is actually much less than wide open, but a full throttle enrichment. It's also possible it's overenriching, but I think that's less likely.

I'm not sure on 530s, but on later cars it cuts off fuel above a certain RPM. Partly for running good and partly for smog, high rpm with the throttle shut tends to result in a rich condition. Wide open it's for enrichment as they didn't test for wide open in those days, just what they felt was normal driving.

Seems Im leaned out a touch at idle with this disconnected.
So basically if I have my idle mixture set right, this switch is not necessary?
And The RPM cut off is just protection if you set idle too high?
With it disconnect it sounds like normal driving is no different, and WOT would run a little rich?

this lady has been inundated with partially restoring a 79 CVCC wagon AND a 66 thunderbird and I have been brain dead ignoring my babies!
I am so glad that this helped us CB and Mike - crew...thanks to you all for chiming in with helpful ideas. that's the way to step in and get er done!
CB I haven't corrected my issue yet (holley carb rebuild and cleaning today) but as soon as i can get to my baby i will let you all know.
So Mike, just take it off or CB adjust it?

I would unplug it and adjust it when I had time. While not essential, it's there for a reason.
