Valve clearence

Post by T.Hanson »

What are the thoughts, pro's, cons between .012 and .010 again ?

Stock factory spec being .012, is .010 for tired engines, noise or a sneaky performance trick ?

Or maybe just baloney.

I think factory spec was .010 to .012. Later cars like E28s used .012-.014. I usually use .010 trying to trick myself into thinking I'm getting another .001HP, but I think having them all the same is the most important part. That and making sure the banjo bolts are tight so they're getting oil.

Thank you.

Lord knows I don't want my banjo falling off, oil not flying everywhere. By chance, if there are brake drums and horns, anything else ?

You know, like a tuba gasket or saxophone filter ?

+1 on having them even.

I try to trick myself into believing I get a smoother idle with what I call a 'tight .012' where the feeler won't pass. Probably more like a 'loose .011'.
