Rear Seats Swap

Hi Everyone,

I have been in the search for back seats for my 1981 e12, the tops of my back seats have dried out, cracked and ripped. I am looking into two options.

I found a set of two black e24 driver seats, which I will use in the front.

When it comes to the back seats, I thought of maybe using the material from the front seats to have an upholstery guy maybe use the tops of my driver seats to stitch together and repair the backs. Then I would probably have to find a way to dye them black from the current blue... Sounds like a lot of work.

So I am curious, does anyone know if more modern or available back seats would easily swap into an e12? Anything from e30 to even e39/46. I know I am getting a little imaginative, but finding seats for more abundant models is a lot easier.

Any e12 (of course)
Any e28 (some slight differences but will bolt in. You may have to change to e28 seat belts so they fit in the little recesses in the back cushion)

Anything else will require more work than it's worth. You'd be better off repairing what you have.

I swapped the rear seats from an 86 E28 in my 76 E12. The seat back was fairly straight forward. The bottom will just not go in. It's close but I have to still do some surgery before I get it secured and fastened in.

I've heard E24's can be done, with some work. Try searching on Mye28 for info on it, someone did it there, maybe even a couple of people.
