Hood release cable routing...76 530i

Anyone have a picture of the correct routing of the hood release cable near the battery area? Took the old one out and must have installed the new one wrong. A real bitch getting it to work properly. Because of the length of the cable I'm thinking maybe it goes under the inner headlight cover or thru the frame near there???

on my 81 its at the top left of the headlight cover opening, the cover has a flat portion 'missing" where the cable enters and passes right above the headlight adjuster.

thanks for the info....no missing piece on my headlight cover...guess I'll just slip the cable behind the cover.
