Internal voltage regulator: 530i

Can't fit new one back in. Is there a trick I'm missing ? Seems to be a spring clip in alternator that is critical to installing and I can't figure it out. After couple hours I'm at a loss with no clue. Simpleist projects take on their own life. Any help appreciated. Thanks.

There is at least one alternator/regulator combo that is non compatible, some regs won't fit in the opening. But if that's not what you have, installation is compressing the brush springs so you have to kind of push it and hold it in while tightening the screws. It's not a matter of just setting it there and tightening.
