Rapping noise from rear suspension, related to road surface, bumps. Wheels off, thinking it could be upper shock mounts, notice dirt, light oil coating on lower shock tube.
For some reason I thought Bilsteins lasted a very long time, save they were on the car when I bought it ten years ago.
I kept a lifetime guarantee postcard from a set I bought, but I don't know if it's for mine, the car's or Michael Jackson's.
Any info, advice, way to inspect or test appreciated. If junk, a source, and if 2 is the accepted option.
Thank you,
Bilstein HD shocks

yep, and the shock mounts will not last 10 yrs either.Brian Smith wrote: 10+ years is pretty good lifespan for a damper.
I think the Sachs HD's are just as good as the Bili's.
At a better price. Bili sports if you want to lower it a little.( with springs)
When you replace the shocks, make sure you put the washers back in correctly.
A friend of mine still owns an '84 or so 733. He installed a full set of Bilsteins with some sort of lowering springs a long time ago. Where ever he went, I'm not sure, but he got new shocks because of the life time warranty. He, of course had to pay to install them.
The key was that he still owned the car & was the original buyer with the receipt. That's confirmed. Good Luck,,,,Greg
Ps I think the shocks are numbered? Because of that, good luck again.
